• Sprinkler and Water lines:  We make every effort to not damage any sprinkler/water lines; however, when a fence is constructed, it is very likely that underground lines that are buried close to the fence will get damaged during the process of digging the new post holes.  We ask that you, as the homeowner, mark and protect these sprinkler/water lines when possible.  In the event that we unintentionally damage underground water lines, sprinkler lines, or above ground sprinkler heads or drip systems, we will notify you of the damage if we are aware of it.  We cannot take responsibility for this damage since we are not able to accurately include the cost of these unforeseen repairs in our original estimate; however, we would like to offer the convenience of several options for repair.
  • We will quote you a cost to repair the damage by either our team or a professional landscaper that we use in instances beyond our expertise.  Our minimum cost is $25.00. 
  • You can hire another company to fix the damage, at your expense.
  • You will have the option to personally fix the damage, at your expense.

  Our goal is to be fair and economical while offering the convenience of prompt on-site repair.  We would make our determination of cost based on the nature of the repair as well as the location of the damage. 

• Landscaping & Lighting:  Although we are sensitive to our surroundings, we ask that you transplant any valuable plants, and move all lighting and outdoor speakers that are currently within 3 feet of your fence.  When a fence is installed, the landscaping that is next to the fence could potentially be damaged due to hauling of fence materials, digging post holes and building the fence.  Prior to our installation, please trim back all valuable trees and bushes that are touching the fence. 

• Personal Items:  Please remove any personal items you may have attached to your fence prior to installation.  The fence will be removed in sections and any items will be removed with it.

• Utility lines:  If any gas or utility lines potentially run underneath the fence line, we will notify the “Underground Services Association” (USA).  USA will inform the appropriate utility companies to come and mark the location of the lines for us with colored marking paint (this will wear off, unlike regular paint).  This is a free service.  You will not need to meet with the utility companies.  Typically, we are unable to place a new post closer than 12” to a gas line – this may affect the location of a gate.

• Fence heights:  If you are uncertain of how high you would like your fence, we recommend that you run string line at various heights in advance of our installation to be certain of the height you would like.  Please be aware that most cities require a building permit or variance for a fence that is taller than 6 feet.  The total height of your fence will be listed on your estimate before the word “finish” (e.g., a 6’ tall fence will be described as a “6’ finish” fence; however, this “finish” height does not include the height of any posts that extend above the main fence height, which will be noted as “reveal”).

• Property Lines:  We will build your new fence in the place it currently exists unless you instruct us otherwise.  If we are building a fence where there is not an existing fence, please stake out the location of the new fence prior to installation.

• Being at the jobsite:  If your fence project is complex or constructed of ornamental iron, please plan to be home when we start your project so that we can review all the details with you.

• Phone numbers:  If you are unable to be present during our installation, please let our office know how we can reach you just in case we have a question.

• Pets:  Plan to keep any animals inside during our installation, and notify all neighbors that will be affected by the fence installation to do the same.

• Minimum charges:  Due to the costs involved with sending out a fence crew, our minimum charge for fence work is $500 per visit.  To serve you best, please let us know of all needed fence repairs and replacements prior to our installation.

• Demolition:  Removal of your fence is included in the estimate unless you notify us otherwise.  Your existing fence posts are cut off at ground level.  The old concrete is typically left in the ground and most of the new fence posts are placed in new locations.  This provides a stronger and more secure installation for the new posts. 

• Post locations next to a home:  Many homes have a concrete footing that extends away from the foundation.  This footing prevents us from properly installing a post right next to the home; therefore, we usually attach a 2x4 to the home using lag screws or toggle bolts.

• Redwood Lumber:  Con-Heart grade redwood (less than 1% cream-colored sapwood) provides your fence with increased decay resistance and a uniform color that is stunning when sealed and protected. Con-Common grade redwood provides a blend of cream-colored sapwood and pink-colored heartwood.  Both grades contain knots; however, our wood standards provide for no knot holes or obviously loose knots.  Our typical fence lumber is “rough-cut” (not sanded smooth) giving you the benefit of larger dimension wood – for example, our 2x4’s are close to being 2” thick.

• Pressure-treated Lumber:  We specify chemically treated Douglas fir lumber for our posts and kickboards to provide superior decay-resistance.

• Sealant & Protectant:  We offer a high-quality; linseed-oil based sealant and protectant to capture the new look of your fence for years to come.  We use a “redwood” tinted sealant.  Reapplication would depend on the amount of sunlight and moisture your fence experiences.  On average, we recommend every 2-4 years. 

• Concrete:  We use the typical method of installing our fence posts called the “dry-set” method.  This allows us to level and adjust your fence line prior to watering the concrete at the conclusion of the job which then begins the process of setting the posts in place.  Please do not open your gates for a period of 48 hours after installation.  Please wait for 3 weeks from the time of installation before “testing” your fence for stability – the concrete will not be fully cured for this length of time. 

• Concrete cutting:  If an existing post is surrounded by concrete (for example, a concrete sidewalk or patio), we will need to either jackhammer the concrete away from the post or core-drill a round hole (for an additional fee) through the concrete.  You can see photographs of these options in our Photo Gallery – please click on Gates.  We will use vinyl concrete-patch in this location – please be advised that this will typically be a different color of gray and texture than your existing concrete.

• Warranty:  Our pressure-treated fence posts and kickboards are warranted against rotting for 15 years.  Our gates are warranted for 1 year.

• At the conclusion of your job:  You can expect that your fence will be quality-checked by the foreman and inspected to be certain that all nails are properly set, all debris (including wood, nails and large chunks of concrete) is hauled away and that your fence is installed according to our agreement. 

• Payment:  Upon completion of your fence project, we prefer that you provide payment to the foreman; however, we realize that you may not be home when the job is completed, and therefore we have provided an option on our website to conveniently make your payment – please click on Pay your invoice.
